Discussing The Importance of Network SecurityEvery modern company runs a considerable portion of its operations with computers that are interconnected with a networking system. Thus it is vital that there are enough measures of security and protection taken by such companies to ensure prevention of any unauthorized access to their computers. With an increasing number of corporate and professional espionage attempt cases there is a need to protect the valuable data available within the computers of a company especially those of certain departments. Over the years increased dependence on computers for data storage and other work related functionalities of various companies have also brought forth equal concern and efforts towards the security and protection of the system. The reference to unauthorized access arises when a professional hacker or a market competitor may try to access the system for classified information. Network security ensures that there are several levels of security checks and scrutiny one has to go through before being able to gain access to the core of the network where all important files and information are stored. It is understood that the number of levels will depend on the degree of security you are looking for. There is a systems administrator who is placed in charge of the networking operations and its security. Besides the administrator there are only a few personnel who work in the same department that have access to this aspect of the company’s data. However in order to enhance the protection level of the files and data within the network the department initiates different and newer measures of security on a regular basis. Access to the mainframe server and associated computer terminals within the company are always secured only with the systems administrator. The single person access goes a long way to bring forth added network security. There is also a firewall which is built for the network. This includes a layer or encryption and security software which acts like a immediate answer to an unauthorized request for access. Employees and others who are not designated to certain positions within the company are not allowed access to the core network because of the fear of attracting malicious coding and malware from certain websites where visits are made by anyone. If such malware installed itself within the computer of an individual user the same could also affect network security of the company. To prevent such occurrence there are anti-adware and anti-malware software available for installation; these are installed both within computers and the network systems. Network security may affect flexibility of operations and access of computer files and data within the company and different designations of employees. This is often seen as a flip side of the program but is usually unavoidable owing to the necessity of the requirement of protection. It is also important that the issue of security is well understood among all rungs of a company establishment; this may also entail restriction of certain websites by employees from official computers and devices of internet access.
There are multiple points of ensuring high level security with the use of firewalls that will allow no single access point and installation of anti-adware software; regular network checks and security updates processed by a capable systems administrator will ensure effective network security.
