Spring Break in Miami: What to Expect

Spring break will be here before you know it. If you’re headed to Miami, you’ll want to prepare yourself for the atmosphere.

Miami and spring break are practically synonymous. However, that doesn’t mean people who have never experienced a Miami spring break know what they are getting into. Tourists who venture this infamous vacation need to not only be aware of the best ways to have fun, but also of the dangers and tourist pitfalls to avoid. If you are planning a spring break in Miami, then here is a rundown for you of what to expect:

Accommodations. Miami is full of accommodations for tourists on all kinds of budgets. Of course, you may know that there are a number of high-end, brightly colored hotels and resorts (which will cost you a pretty penny, by the way), but did you also know that you can actually stay in a hostel, right on South Beach, for as little as twenty dollars a day?

Daylife versus nightlife. It goes without saying that if you are going to Miami during spring break, you are going there to party. Just keep in mind that Miami has a lot of enjoyment to offer both day and night, and that they vary greatly. For example, plan on spending the day on the beach, shopping, or taking airboat rides through the Florida

Everglades. At night, you can plan on glamming it up and heading out on the town to visit Miami’s many booming bars and nightclubs.

What to wear. Miami is hot all year round, but during spring break, it’s actually dangerously hot. Therefore, you need to dress appropriately. Plan on wearing as little as possible, and keep in mind that it is not unusual for sightseers to wear nothing more than bathing suits. At night, it’s almost a necessity to dress up, as many of the restaurants and night clubs have dress codes, so prepare to show some flash (and again, to wear as little as possible). Also, wear cottons and other natural, breathable fabrics, and stay away from synthetics like rayon. And don’t forget to wear your sunscreen

Money safety. Miami Beach during spring break is packed, and amongst those crowded groups of tourists are pickpockets and scammers. Never lose sight (or grip) of your money, or your other important cards and travel documents. Only choose cabs that charge a flat rate, because Miami cab drivers love to take advantage of spring break tourists. Read your bar tabs carefully. It’s quite common for bartenders to up-charge people who run tabs (and who seem to be drinking a lot).

Hitting up Miami’s spring break can be a fun and unforgettable experience. Just make sure you know what you are getting into before you jump in. Have fun and be safe
